In 1838, Henderson County was incorporated and named after North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Leonard Henderson (1772-1833). The county seat, Hendersonville, was founded in 1847. Prior to the late 1700’s, Cherokee Indians thrived in the area. Tourism, commerce, agriculture, light industry and retirement communities support the local economy currently.
